Mereway Kitchens Achieve Zero Glue Line
This new process provides Mereway with the ability to manufacture MFC, MDF, acrylic and veneer doors and decorative panels to the highest standards on a “made to order” basis within very short lead times.
Following a comprehensive 12 month project to pursue the very best edge banding quality, the research and development paid off as Mereway attained their objective; to achieve an entirely repeatable zero glue line finish using a PUR adhesive - the preferred adhesive for Mereway.
Working with partners Fen UK and machine manufacturer Paul Ott GmbH, the machine was specified, built and commissioned so through industry leading patented technology and design, can achieve the ultimate finish, whilst being flexible across all board types and colours and running at a speed of 20 metres per minute.
Why PUR? The Technology
Mereway have specified the machine to use both a clear and white PUR to ensure the best combinations of edge, board and glue colour can be achieved, providing a remarkable visual result.
The adhesive management, application and dosing system is critical to the process. The combi hot melt system on the OTT machine allows the exact parameters for board types and applications to be programmed into the machine and be set at the touch of a button. However, there is far more to a PUR than just a great finish, the adhesion or bond qualities are far better than that of an EVA, the heat and water resistance properties are also much higher.
“We’re delighted with the immaculate finish the new machine produces.” Steve Neal, manufacturing manager who headed up the project commented “Mereway take capital investment very seriously, ensuring they’re at the forefront of design and product innovation within the UK’s kitchen and bathroom furniture market”. Steve continues “This new machinery gives us a real competitive edge.”
This is typical of the quality excellence Mereway retailers have been enjoying for many years, and why their reputation is unprecedented and product is so recognisable in the market.
