The ever popular Knowle Fun Run has seen runners with many different outfits and accessories over its 32 year history but for the first time this year a team will be running with a bath in a racing cradle.
The team from Tysley based manufacturer Mereway is running to raise money for its 30th anniversary charity initiative and has pledged to raise £30,000 for four nominated local charities.
The ‘Bath Racer’ was the brainchild of Mereway buyer Wayne Frost and SpeedFab, a supplier to Mereway that manufactures bespoke stainless steel parts.
“We were delighted to be asked by Mereway to work on the Bath Racer,” says Trevor Pritchard at SpeedFab. “We love a challenge and were able to design and build the Bath Racer within just a few weeks.”
The bath cradle has been constructed using SpeedFab stock materials and parts donated by SpeedFab suppliers, SAL Abrasives and Acorn Industrial Supplies. It will be pushed around the course by a team of runners from Mereway.
The company has chosen to support the Knowle Fun Run because the Norris family, the owners of the business live locally and have partcipitaed in the run for many years.
“It is an annual event for the family to join in the Knowle Fun Run and enjoy the atmosphere whilst raising money for good causes,” says Mereway MD Bob Norris. “We are grateful for the support we have received from SpeedFab as they have not only made the Bath Racer for us but also made a
generous donation to our appeal.
“We are looking forward to bringing the Mereway Bath Racer to the event this year and having a lot of fun whilst helping us reach our £30,000 target.”
